Maurice Drummond was the second son of the 8th Viscount Strathallan and brother of Eric Drummond, 7th Earl of Perth. He joined the Black Watch in 1897 and saw action in South Africa in 1899, being severely wounded during the Battle of Magersfontein on 11th December. At the outbreak of the First World War he commanded B Company of the 1st Black Watch. He was wounded in the lung at the Battle of the Marne on 9th September 1914 but survived the war. He later became Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.
