Francis Anderson commissioned into The Black Watch in 1907. At the outbreak of war in 1914 he was appointed transport officer of the 1st Battalion, carrying out this role throughout the retreat from Mons. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order and bar, and the Military Cross, and later commanded the Battalion. He became an instructor at the Royal Military Academy before retiring from the army in 1924. He died at Camberley in 1925.
