The Hon Robert Anstruther was the son of Sir Ralph Anstruther of Balcaskie, commanding officer of the 6th (Fife) Volunteer Battalion (later the 7th Territorial Battalion), The Black Watch. He commissioned into the 1st Battalion in 1909 and accompanied the battalion to war in August 1914. He commanded the 8th Battalion from 1917 and died of wounds received in service on 22nd July 1921.
