The son of a Glasgow warehouse foreman (later Justice of the Peace), William Kedie commissioned into the Black Watch in 1901, and almost immediately saw action in the closing stages of the Second Anglo-Boer War. He was killed in action while serving as a staff officer in Gallipoli on 21st August 1915.
