Ernest Vincent Anderson commissioned into the 1st Battalion, The Black Watch, in 1906. In 1914 he was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps. On 12th May 1914 Anderson was killed during the first instance of a mid-air collision between two aircraft, over Farnborough.
