McCulloch Christison enlisted in the 14th Battalion, The London Regiment (London Scottish), on 5th August 1914. He served during the First Battle of Ypres and was severely wounded at Givenchy on 1st January 1915. Upon recovery he was commissioned into the 3rd (Special Reserve) Battalion, The Black Watch, and served at Nigg throughout the remainder of the war.
